This is due to a pattern change that has brought colder air to those regions.Spring snow is expected this week in the Rockies and Plains, including Denver, from a pattern change that has brought markedly chillier air to those regions.
A slow-moving swirling low in the West and just-cold-enough air will combine to wring out some wet snow in parts of the Rockies, High Plains and Northern Plains near the Canadian border through late week. In fact, at least some light snow could fall at times for several days in Wyoming, western Nebraska, western South Dakota, northwestern Kansas and Colorado, including the Front Range from Denver to Cheyenne.
The most significant snow in the lower elevations of the High Plains is expected later Thursday into early Friday, which is when the area of low pressure begins to nudge its way eastward.
