Birds Seized,Cockfighting Ring,Investigation

A search warrant recently served in a cockfighting investigation led to over 100 birds being seized from a Luzerne County residence.

According to Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce , in March, the Luzerne County SPCA received a lead regarding a possible cockfighting ring in Sugarloaf Township.

On April 10, officers from the SPCA along with detectives from the District Attorney’s Office, executed a search warrant on the residence of Reynaldo DeJesus Castillo, 62, and Annies Martires Castillo, 69, on Sugarloaf Heights Road. FOX56 spoke to Sampson Metzger, lead avian specialist at the Wilderz at Pocono Wildlife rehabilitation center says roosters are put up against each other to fight to the death or severe injury.

Metzger tells us this is distrusting how its continues to be a concern occurrence, even close to home.
