Warning: Spoilers ahead for Cobra Kai season 5Cobra Kai star Ralph Macchio offers an update on season 6 of the Karate Kid spinoff. Debuting on Netflix in early September, Cobra Kai season 5 surprised audiences in a big way with its finale. It wasn't any particular cliffhanger or twist, but the fact that, for the first time in its history, the dojo dramedy concluded without any major rivalries.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY There is also the fact that, if it is renewed, Cobra Kai season 6 will likely be delayed. This is because the show's co-creators, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, are involved in several other projects, such as the high-profile Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spinoff movie. Because of the uncharacteristically happy ending and the busy schedule of the creative team, the future of Cobra Kai is uncertain for the first time in a good while.
It hasn’t officially been picked up. I need to say that because that is the truth. [But] we’re feeling pretty good that we’ll get to continue the show and let it evolve and land when it needs to. These guys, Jon [Hurwitz], Josh [Heald] and Hayden [Schlossberg], who write this show, are just so great at [having] their finger on the pulse of what the fans want. They are the fans themselves. There’s more meat on the bones there.
What Could Cobra Kai Season 6 Be About? Even though Cobra Kai season 5 wraps up in a mostly upbeat place, there are a few dangling threads. Most notably, the spinoff mentioned an international karate tournament known as the Sekai Taikai. The competitive gathering features the best martial arts fighters from around the globe. The writers have said they'd want to explore this path further, essentially turning the story from a local saga to an international affair.
The finale ended with the reveal that Kreese has escaped prison. He'll likely play some role in bringing the titular dojo back to what he believes is the ideal, leading to clashes with Daniel. So, even though Cobra Kai finally ended its biggest feuds, there are likely seeds for at least another season or two worth of storytelling that have already been planted. There's also the possibility of spinoffs, which would center around new faces while still connecting to the larger franchise.
If no one's going to say it, I will. I think Sony is planning for Cobra Kai Season 6 to be the new Karate Kid movie.
It’s literally the only reason I’ve had Netflix for the past few years, it has to come back
