By Anchorage Daily NewsThe U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday afternoon said it was suspending a search for three people who remain missing after their boat capsized Wednesday morning near Seward, leaving at least one dead.
The boat involved was a privately operated 21-foot Hewescraft, according to a Coast Guard spokesperson. The agency said it received a radio distress call Wednesday morning from a 21-foot Hewescraft with four people aboard that was taking on water in the area of Aialik Bay, according to anThe Coast Guard described conditions at the time of the incident as 12-foot seas and 20 mph winds with gusts to 30.
A good Samaritan nearby recovered one person “with no signs of life” from the water on Wednesday, officials said. That person was taken by water to Seward and transferred for emergency medical care, the Coast Guard said.The Coast Guard searched through the night with aircraft and vessels, officials said. Alaska State Troopers are providing assistance, a spokesman said.
