- Climate change played a hand in the deadly floods in the U.S. upper Midwest that have damaged crops and drowned livestock, scientists said on Thursday, while a Trump administration official said more homework was needed before making that link.
Manmade greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, warming the oceans and making the air above them more humid, scientists said. When a storm picks up and eventually spits out that moisture, it can be devastating for people caught below. “I don’t think it’s a starring role, but it’s a strong supporting role,” said Kevin Trenberth, a senior scientist at the U.S. National Center for Atmospheric Research, a federally-funded office, of climate change’s role in the Midwest floods.
That report, mandated by Congress, was compiled by 13 federal departments and agencies, but was called inaccurate by the White House. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the link between climate change and the storm.Deke Arndt, chief of climate monitoring at the National Centers for Environmental Information, an arm of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said that the type of heavy precipitation that immediately led to the upper Midwest floods is generally increasing over time.
NOAA officials said on the call they expect the floods to continue through May and get more dire as snow melts and water continues to flow downstream.
All the chemicals they’ve been using on this land is now in liquid form on their own doorstep. You’ll eventually hear that people will be developing cancers at higher levels. Wouldn’t want to be in their shoes right now.
Flooding happens every year around here. Sometimes really bad, sometimes really mild. It's the midwest. We're used to it.
😱😱😱
Loads of poop. The U.S. Midwest has been experiencing floods throughout recorded history.
I'm a psychologist concerned that many people don't talk about climate change because they simply don’t know how to, so I wrote something about how to have a useful conversation about climate change. Here it is
No,flushing out the glyphosate
The midwest flood of 1993 was worst and the 1927 was even bigger, but hey nice try with the climate change BS.
WongYK8 😱😱😱😱
Occam's razors are free, and easy to use.
What there has never been a flood in the Midwest before?
Voting for a pussygrabber has consequences😐
Now that Trump gave the tax payers money to the wealthy because of tax cuts, he's going to either raise taxes or cut more from the needy in order to help the midwest. Trump is going to bankrupt us if he hasn't already done so. He put us in sooo much debt.
So, climate has never changed and floods are a new phenomenon. Got it.
It’s called a spring melt, these flood plains have been there for centuries, more ClimateHysteria....
So the harsh winter is due to weather and this is not? You mix up weather and climate. It happened before.
Republicans, Trump, Trump Voters do you deep down still think Climate Change isn’t Real . Farmers in a few years do you need a repeat of Floods to convince you. This Flood is on Trump & Republicans. The only way to change this is vote Trump & Republicans Out in 2020.

Almost like the Ice Age
Isn't that called a flood plain?
what BS... 'bomb cyclone' is a media hype made up word... these have been happening for billions of years and quite often have a moisture connection from the tropics....
Did their tarot card seance session reveal this connection?
Has a 'Mozambique' sort of feel, n'est-ce pas? That having been said, the Red floods about once every five years, so despite the US Corps of Engineers, nature pretty much always wins in the end.
