A 250-unit apartment complex will be built after the razing of six historic townhomes.

and six new townhomes to a plot of land bordered by Stokes Boulevard, Cedar Avenue and East 107th Street. University Circle Inc. and Rust Belt Development said demolition of existing townhomes on Cedar Avenue would necessary to move forward.

The project went to the planning commission Friday for the third time after not getting approval twice. Since the last meeting, the developers said they’ve had more community meetings to get input on the project. Huang said she cares deeply for the rowhouses but ultimately believes the benefits of the new construction outweigh the demolition.

The red outline is the land owned by University Circle Inc, where a proposed 250-unit apartment building has been approved.But UCI was also accused of demolition by neglect. August Fluker, a planning commission member who voted against the project and the proposed demolition, said it’s the property owner’s responsibility to not let properties fall into disrepair.
