New renderings from the 60% complete master plan for the downtown Cleveland lakefront show how a hard-edged area around Browns Stadium could be filled with affordable, four-season fun, sunset vistas, development projects, and a land bridge connection to the downtown Mall.
“We are making great progress on the lakefront and North Coast Connector planning and this focused and purpose-driven entity is the way to ensure that our planning translates into action,” Mayor Justin Bibb said in the news release. “This is a long-term project, and the development authority model is a best practice that ensures the work continues, regardless of future leadership changes.
The news release said the nonprofit would also provide oversight for a potential New Community Authority, a public entity empowered under Ohio law to oversee, build and finance public infrastructure and community facilities. “Council is committed to collaborating on moving the lakefront project forward,” Cleveland City Council President Blaine Griffin said in the news release. “I am pleased to be part of the new board and look forward to the progress we will make together.”
