The victim’s husband was also home, but managed to escape and is now being helped by the Red Cross.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - An elderly woman was killed in a house fire Tuesday evening and Cleveland firefighters said careless smoking started the blaze.

Firefighters responded to the home in the 900 block of Paxton Rd. around 5:10 p.m. This is in the city’s Forest Hills neighborhood. Cleveland Firefighter John Kearns said they received the call from a neighbor stating someone was trapped in the back room of the home and when they entered the women, the victim was found deceased.

Neighbors told 19 News the elderly woman was confined to a wheelchair. Her name has not been released.Jury trial underway for Akron ride share driver accused of raping several women
