Clayton Perry mulls mayoral run after DWI, hit-and-run scandal

Former City Councilman Clayton Perry , who pleaded no contest last year to charges of driving while intoxicated and fleeing the scene of an accident, is weighing a 2025 mayoral run. “I really enjoyed it on council, and people have been saying, ‘Clayton, you need to get involved again and run for an office,’ ” Perry told the San Antonio Express-News . “I’ve been thinking about that. I’ve been praying about that and asking for guidance and looking at that possibility that’s coming up this next May.

He was also required to have an interlock ignition system installed in his car for six months, which required him to pass a breath alcohol test to start the engine. The charges were dismissed on April 16 after he completed the terms of his probation, according to Bexar County court records. Perry’s successor in District 10, Marc Whyte, was arrested on a charge of DWI on Dec. 29 near San Antonio International Airport.
