Monet painting from celebrated 'Meules' (Haystacks) series fetches $110.7 million in New York

A painting by Claude Monet, part of the Haystacks"Les Meules" series, is displayed at Sotheby's during a press preview of their upcoming impressionist and modern art sale in New York, US. May 3, 2019.

The total, which includes fees and the commission, was more than 44 times the previous record for the work.Light across the day Another painting from the series was sold in November 2016 by the Christie's auction house in New York for $81.4 million.It distinguishes itself from others in the series by its vibrant paint palette, dramatic diagonal brushstrokes of varying directions that meet at the centre and a unique perspective with only part of the first haystack appearing in the foreground.
