For the third straight day, Chicago Public Schools officials cancel classes as bargaining sessions between district leaders and the Chicago Teachers Union fail, with parents and students remaining in limbo.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot and CPS CEO Pedro Martinez called those negotiations "productive from our perspective."

"I’m trying to do my part, my role as a teacher," said Joseph Ocol, Ella Flagg Young Elementary School teacher. "I’m hoping this can be resolved soon." "I’m hoping the union will also realize that there is this authority they need to respect, they cannot just be dictating everything as if they’re running the show," said Ocol.

Of course they did Well, based on the current Chicago youth demographics, only the best, committed students will participate and learn. The others, will drop out..and...you know.🤨 Since white community sees school as imperative, they should help Black descendants who's ancestors were whipped across their bare backs, by white men, if found reading a book, MichaelEDyson Generation after generation of uneducated unemployable members in the community.

Chicago Public Schools Cancel Classes After Teachers Vote Against In-Person InstructionChicago Public Schools canceled classes Wednesday after the teachers union voted late Tuesday to stop providing in-person instruction, citing the latest spike in Covid-19 that has sent cases to record levels in the city All they’re asking for is a testing program to protect their students and communities from a deadly virus. Every school should have this and every parent should be grateful that Chicago teachers are willing to hold the line to get it. Many professions have stepped up during the pandemic- doctors, nurses, police officers, emt's- only teachers have decided to abandon their jobs. I blame their unions, most teachers i know want to teach Let’s see….who is more incompetent: 1. The Mayor 2. The Teachers Union

Chicago Public Schools shut down amid teachers union protest of Covid protocolsThe Chicago Teachers Union voted not to report to schools, forcing the the country's third largest school district to close in-person and remote instruction for students the Teachers Union in Chicago is very militant They r part of Biden's base They should be sacked I realize that headline is designed for the most “clicks”, but a more accurate headline would read, CTU was demands that they teach virtually for the 2 weeks. Noting there’s been a huge surge in Covid cases after the holiday travel and merriment. The Mayor closed the schools. They weren't learning much before COVID...so I doubt its gotten better. You can't fail these kids, you can't discipline these kids, and they destroy the learning opportunities for the willing. CPS lowers their expectations of kids daily.
