The Eagles swept their Class 3A quarterfinal series at Prattville Christian on Thursday, winning 11-3 and 3-1, to move onward in the state playoffs.
Brooks Canady and Smith kept the Panthers in check despite a flood of runners, allowing just five hits and one run. Canady, the winning pitcher, went 5 2/3 innings, giving up all five hits and the run, while also issuing five walks, hitting two and striking out two. Smith earned a save, working the last 1 1/3 innings. He struck out two, walked one and hit one batter.
The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the third to inch ahead 3-1. Porter Dykes scored on an outfield error during a Chapel Stickler single and Stickler later score on a Canady ground out.Win Brock and early offense were the story in the opener. Brock had a no-hit shutout through five innings before settling for a two-hitter and allowing three runs, all unearned after two Eagle errors.
Thomasville 5-7, Opp 3-1: Opp’s season came to end with a doubleheader loss at Thomasville, 5-3 and 7-1.
