Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced a pilot program that gives residents control over an $8.5 million budget, an initiative aimed at addressing racial and economic injustice.

"These are communities where at least 87% of the people are people of color," said Garcetti.

At least 16% are living in poverty and unemployment rates are at least 15%, according to the city of L.A. Data from the California Communities Environmental Health Screening tool shows these areas are more vulnerable to pollution than 80% of communities in the state, and they are among some of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It is time to empower these communities, and no one knows the community better than the people who live here," said Capri Maddox, executive director of the L.A. Civil Rights Department.Seventeen members from the nine communities will form the steering committee and can be as young as 16 years old. Recruitment will be open through early June and the program will start with three communities this year before expanding in 2023.

This is an experiment on how democracy doesn't work... As soon as that group of people get down to deciding things nothing will be decided because no one will agree on anything.

USA still fighting racial injustice? 2022. That tells you country don't care about the citizens. Look at the rental and housing price gouging to slavery

Too little to late.

BLM scammer Patrisue Cullors will teach those cities how to use that money with her new book, How White Liberal Guilt gots me 90 million dollars to buys me houses in white neighborhoods.

Lol buying votes 🗳

Omg

Oh please, there are already community neighborhood empowerment groups that were created to make the community feel like they had “input and power” and it just BS. Money and corrupt politicians have been and will continue to make all decisions.

I feel like this is a cop out…kind of like they gave up and said okay no one is happy so you figure it out.

Tax & spend democrat. Take homeless people off the streets & beaches. Medicate them.

Sorry all that money is needed to cover sexual harassment settlements.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that “whites” aren’t included in the “injustice” budget?

Should we give him any control of that amount of money now? He’s gone in six months and lost his future to be a ambassador. No thought on what is correct for the people. Only what he needs to move forward..:

All of our budget should be up to the people
