The five-year plan will spend a higher percentage of money on programs to benefit low-income CPS Energy customers, officials said.

11,280 solar panels at CPS Energy’s community solar farm in Adkins, TX has the capacity to generate 1.2 megawatts of electricity.In a split vote, the San Antonio City Council approved the extension of CPS Energy’s energy efficiency program on Thursday for another five years at roughly the same cost to customers that they’re paying now.

Weatherization will make up a bigger chunk of the program overall; almost one-third will help low-income customers make their homes more energy-efficient and reduce energy costs; that’sThe overall goal of the program, however, remains the same: to reduce local energy demand through programs that allow customers to save energy and take advantage of greener options.

CPS Energy agreed Thursday to give council a formal evaluation of the program in 2025, the program’s third year, and again in 2026 to determine whether the program should continue beyond 2027. Annual and quarterly reports will also be given to city staff and council, said Rick Luna, CPS Energy’s director of technology and product innovation.
