Police departments around the U.S. that are requiring officers to get vaccinated against COVID-19 are facing pockets of resistance that some fear could leave law enforcement shorthanded. Police unions and officers are filing lawsuits to block the mandates.

On Thursday, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said officers would not be sent home if they showed up to work Friday and refused to provide their information. Instead, she said, they would be put on unpaid leave after the weekend, because confirming compliance would take a few days.John Catanzara, president of the FOP local in Chicago, said about half of his members have not been vaccinated and called a mandate requiring inoculation “absolutely wrong.

In Los Angeles County, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said he won’t force his 18,000 employees to be vaccinated despite a county mandate. “I don’t want to be in a position to lose 5, 10% of my workforce overnight,” he said last week. Workers at Los Alamos National Laboratory — the birthplace of the atomic bomb — faced a deadline Friday to get vaccinated or risk being fired. A New Mexico judge denied a last-minute request by dozens of scientists and others to block the mandate.

Police departments in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Denver are also among those under vaccine mandates or facing one. New York’s mayor has said he is looking at the idea despite opposition from the city’s largest police union.

It's all about choice. The cops can choose not ro get rhe shots. The local govts can choose not to allow them to be cops. Then everyone has to deal with the consequences. I ain't worried. I got a gun

Cops that don’t follow department regulations and requirements also don’t follow the law. They shouldn’t be officers anyway.

They absolutely are right to file lawsuits and reject these mandates.

What a unique way to define the police.

I'm cool with fewer police. Especially the extra stupid ones.

Good. Get rid of them. We don't need these officers working with the public.

Of course, apparently police unions feel death by COVID is preferable to the rare chance of potential death on duty.

I love it. They are defunding themselves.

Good get them tf out of our communities. Freedom to find a job elsewhere and Freedom to fk right off.

Serving and Protecting the community was in the job description… if you’re asked by the community to get a vaccination, and you refuse because some chucklefuck on Fox News (who’s been vaccinated) told you not to, you’re really not living up to the job you said you’d do.

They won't be missed.

And some are gleeful that it could leave the cops shorthanded. Damn if only we’d done these mandates a year ago.

So surprised they don’t want to comply.

Don’t the Police swear to ‘Protect & Serve’…….the people. Vaccination is protecting the people

Serve and protect?

Let me get this straight. A bunch of cops are whining, quitting, or straight up ignoring the rules, and in some cases suing, because of a rule out in place. Oh the irony. Let them quit or fire them. They obviously don’t care about rules and regulations.

They risk infecting others when doing wellness checks on old and disabled. They risk killing children who they rescue. They risk killing each other. Wait, that last one might not be bad if they refuse the jab.

Gambian women's voices on COVID-19 vaccines: 'We are afraid'SERREKUNDA, Gambia (AP) — Oyster harvesting in Gambia is considered women’s work. It's a grueling task — they paddle rickety boats, then get into water up to their necks to lay nets. Many of the women are the sole family breadwinners, and that burden has only intensified with the pandemic's economic hardships. I understand their concerns. It’s a difficult decision to make when you are sole caregiver and provider for your family. There’s no one there to take your place if you get sick from either the virus or vaccine. Trying to make the best decision is difficult They can only afford Ivermectin. They will be fine. with another bullshit take on Africans labeled as journalism. Is the reason why there is 4% vaccine intake on the continent because people don't want it or they can't get it? 🤔 Easier to pretend it's the former cos it makes your core audience feel good about themselves.

HIPAA, COVID-19 Vaccination, and the WorkplaceHIPAA doesn’t restrict anyone from sharing information about their own health, such as their COVID19 vaccination status. Learn more about what HIPAA covers: its mainly 4 drs to discus with the public not patients, from my understanding Thanks, but this seems like common sense, I'll share whatever info I want, it's my data. Dumbest meme yet. Obviously we can share what ever we want. The question is does HIPAA allow a employer to ask employees or not. Seems pretty simple
