Michael AdkisonFor the second time in a week, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has blocked Texas' sweeping border security law from taking effect, this time more so on the grounds of the law itself rather than administrative policy, dealing a blow to a Texas Republican priority.
The law, Senate Bill 4, would give Texas law enforcement officers the authority to detain undocumented migrants based solely on their immigration status, a process which could ultimately result in Texas effectively deporting those migrants. Legal whiplash from contrasting rulings over the last week meant the law, went to the U.S. Supreme Court and back. In the coming weeks, it's expected to be back at the Supreme Court, once again.
