Born in Ukraine in 1979, Hutchins grew up on a Soviet military base in the Arctic Circle. She attended Kyiv National University and graduated with a degree in international journalism. In her first career, she worked as an investigative journalist for British documentary productions in Eastern Europe.
On the recommendation of Emmy-winning cinematographer Robert Primes, she entered the American Film Institute Conservatory, the institute’s filmmaking MFA program, in 2013 and graduated two years later. Her thesis project, a collaboration with classmate Farzad Ostovarzadeh, was screened at Camerimage, the European festival dedicated to cinematography.

Alex Baldwin shot TWO people in a pro gun accident. The cinemaphotographer, Halyna Hutchins, is dead. The Director, Joel Souza, was injured.

No more realistic guns with real looking gunfire shots from blanks on set. It doesn't have to look 100% real, just make it look real enough with a dummy airsoft gun with vfx for the gunfire, safety is far more important than absolute realism.

Many in the industry are saying the gun was not a prop by definition.. and that it was a real gun with planks 👀 This should have been avoided and could have been which is very frustrating. My prayers go out to her friends and family.
