Chris Hemsworth confirms filming is underway on George Miller's Mad Max prequel movie, Furiosa. Several years after making a trilogy of movies with Mel Gibson as Max, George Miller delivered a huge hit with Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015. The film starred Tom Hardy as Max and introduced audiences to Charlize Theron's Furiosa, as the two occupied most of the screen throughout the thrilling adventure.
Development on Furiosa really picked up in 2020 once it was announced that Anya Taylor-Joy would play the younger Imperator Furiosa and bring Charlize Theron's character to life once more. It was later revealed that Chris Hemsworth was joining the Mad Max prequel movie too. Future reports indicated that he's meant to play Furiosa's villain. While Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was also part of the cast at one point, he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts and was replaced by Tom Burke.
There are so far no plot details known about Furiosa other than it takes place prior to the events of Mad Max: Fury Road. Anya Taylor-Joy previously expressed her desire to shave her head, just as Charlize Theron did, but it is not yet known if that is necessary. One thing that is known is that Hemsworth's Furiosa villain is not a character previously featured in the movies, disproving the popular theory he is playing a young Immortan Joe.
Seeing that Furiosa is now filming should be enough to generate plenty of excitement for fans of the franchise. It is no secret that Mad Max: Fury Road was a difficult production bringing George Miller's vision to life and even just getting the movie off the ground. While Furiosa had its own series of filming delays caused by COVID-19, the start of filming alleviate any doubt that the movie would not actually happen.
