APT41, a state-sponsored hacker group in the southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu, is believed to be behind the attack, the outlet reported. And it’s likely they stole more than officials even realize.
Five of its members have been indicted by federal prosecutors, but they have not been extradited to the US and remain at-large. It’s not clear if APT41 stole Americans hard-earned tax-dollars at the Chinese government’s direction, but a senior Justice Department official said the attack is nonetheless “dangerous.”and Anthem Health.
APT41 has been looting for more than a decade, and the US has little recourse to stop them. The group also goes by the names Winnti, Barium, and Wicked Panda, according to the report.
