Chinatown activists have accused venture capitalist Garry Tan of inciting violence by amplifying an anti-Aaron Peskin rally occurring at the same time and place of the San Francisco supervisor’s mayoral campaign launch event in Portsmouth Square scheduled Saturday. Community organizers called on local authorities to ensure their rally is protected from the counter-demonstrators.
Jeremy Lee, president of the Rose Pak Democratic Club — the progressive Chinatown community organization running Peskin’s Portsmouth Square rally — called Tan “unhinged” and cited his history of “encouraging violence” and “spreading vitriol” as reason for the group’s concerns.
