While Australian producers have found new buyers in the U.K., U.S. and Southeast Asia, it will probably take three or four years to recover losses — and not all the roughly 1,000 China-focused wine exporters will survive, said Tony Battaglene, chief executive of Australian Grape and Wine, an industry interest group.
He said Australian businesses still hope to re-enter the Chinese market when the tariffs are set to expire in five years, and that Australian wine experts can help Chinese producers navigate climate-related problems that both face.In the domestic Chinese market, local producers still face competition from high quality wine at low prices, Battaglene said.
On the international level, Chinese producers have "got a long way to go before they become a big exporter," he added. As a result of those tariffs, Chinese imports of wine from Chile and France are getting a boost, said Xige's Zhang, who also attended the event in Beijing. He said the government's emphasis on Ningxia's wine industry will likely help vineyards get financing, since they won't be viewed as merely agriculture businesses.
Zhang added that growing attention on the wine industry is helping boost domestic tourism. His 22 guest rooms that run for 1,200 yuan a night have been sold out every weekend since early May. In addition to the popularity of foreign brands, one of the bigger challenges for China's wine industry is a local preference for a strong, clear liquor known as baijiu. The alcohol is a staple at Chinese business and government dinners, and one of the main brands,If wine can be as cheap as baijiu, or about 40 yuan for some bottles, then more people will consume it, said the agriculture ministry's Sui. Chinese need to "drink less baijiu, drink more wine.
I hope it floods and rots…

Bordeaux made in China… somehow doesn’t do it for me,
Yeah and do we have guarantees that they are not using pesticides that causes illnesses to humans? Since well all know the standards of china are pretty low!
And...
Clearly you have never tasted Great Wall Red, Sulfuric acid is an improvement
It'll work. The rich have spent decades creating a cultural wasteland in the West in order to flood it with shit. The average Joe wouldn't know the difference between art and reality TV. But they do prefer reality TV. And when it comes to booze, cheap wins every time.
China can build anything
They already bought half of Bordeaux châteaux…
3 humanitarian/medical aid volunteers have been killed in Sagaing region. Aid volunteers appear to continue to be targeted while humanitarian supplies have also been destroyed. June20Coup WhatsHappeningInMyanmar
Tings. Be Gwon. In CHINA .
Tariffs!!!
Wouldnt touch it!
Dream on!😂
Bordeaux has centuries of proven pedigree that provides that quality. I think they should take Bordeaux as a benchmark like how Californian wineries did, then create your unique style along with quality. There are so many factors in that equation that money cannot buy😉
Corona Vineyards, no thanks
Yeah, Climate Chaos will destroy Human Civilization by 2050, so wine production is not going to be a big issue by 2035 or so.

Am I the only that sees what China has been doing for decades, they undercut everything for sale by paying the workers practically nothing, the average worker gets payed 5 grand a year, buy goods made in your respective countries
Be careful, EU. If you don't go up against China with US, your country would be next, like Australia, lol.
Grape-flavoured anti-freeze?
and Vechain is the way to do it
China can make my shoes, not my wine
It's pretty naive to even think about it. Even if they mimic the climate it will still be a new world country wine with no class
Looks like Chinas check cleared.
🍹🥂🍷
French wine is legendary and real French wine . Communist China’s wine will be as good as WuhanVirus. Bottom line—— Drink it at your own risk.

They could spend a trillion dollars and still they won’t ever be close to being compared to France’s Bordeaux. They could force their own citizens to drink the wine or force the Uyghurs to make and bottle the wine to produce at low cost, still will fail.
Imagine that, wine made in china! Lol
good news.
I think making good products requires a certain degree of integrity.

Just wondering, is it April 1?
