BEIJING - China’s coronavirus outbreak has tested the limits of free speech on the country’s heavily censored online and social media, with a brief window of liberalization that opened during January subsequently slammed shut by authorities.

That liberalisation has come to end, with censors in the past week shutting down WeChat groups and scrubbing social media posts, according to Chinese reporters. Authorities have also reprimanded tech firms that gave free rein to online speech. The cyberspace regulator, Cyberspace Administration of China , did not respond to phone calls or to requests for comment sent by fax.

A notice sent to editors working for an online Chinese news outlet and seen by Reuters asked them not to “comment or speculate” on Li’s death, “do not hashtag and let the topic gradually die out from the hot search list, and guard against harmful information.” Last week, however, CAC announced that it had punished some websites, mobile applications and social media accounts for publishing illicit content on the outbreak, saying it wanted to foster a “good online atmosphere” amid the country’s efforts to contain the epidemic.

China needs a new revolution to overthrow this tyrannical system.

They don’t want the truth getting out that over 500000 are already infected!

They still didn't learn the lesson. Speech censorship caused them to miss the golden opportunity to prevent WuhanCoronavirus outbreak.

poor Dr. Li died in vain, China has learned nothing from this incident.

How could the people in China stand this?!

China hides everything about the WuhanCoronavirus since day 1

CCP will never learn from history & change its nature, an authoritarian regime only knows how to censor all news that harms its power and face. The world should start to realize this and stop dreaming China will become a country that has freedom of speech. antiCCP

This shows CCP is a crime syndicate who has no concern about welfare of Chinese ppl. They colonised China by controlling military and suppress free speech with violence. Silencing ppl is apparently what caused this huge outbreak but their main interest is only to stay in power

China only wants dead heroes. So they first silenced Dr. Li, then honoured him when Li died of the pneumonia. But China never wants living people who dare to speak the truth, as eventually ppl will call of freedom of speech and an end of censorship. CCPChina ChinaCoronaVirus

It's because the people finally realized deprivation of freedom is life threatening, and start to struggle for freedom, which is prohibited in China

This is accurate. Tightened grip to prevent the truth from unfolding to the world. This is the usual tactics of CCP. Do you really trust the numbers provided by CCPChina ?

CCPChina

China is still lying to their people by providing fake data about CoronavirusOutbreak. Censorship shouldn't exist, and people should awake from the 'great China dream'

During the time of Lunar New Year, the Spring festival of China, a deadly outbreak of the coronavirus has emerged in the city of Wuhan. The question then arises,'What is the coronavirus? How dangerous is it?.' Facts Coronavirus Health Epidemic

They have never learnt from the mistake in which they oppress the FreedomOfSpeech and consequently make WuhanCoronovirus spread around the world. Thus, they still work hard on oppressing the FreedomOfSpeech to ensure its political stability

The truth is once again buried in the deep shadows of the CCP.

'efforts to strengthen ‘the guidance of public opinion’ to be increased' - oxymoron

Hiding the truth I’m sure
