China has completed its first public test of a Mars lander, keeping the country on track for an unmanned exploration mission to the red planet in 2020.

Huailai, China

Chinese officials said the landscape mirrored the slopes and craters of the planet Mars. The lander sits before being lifted for tests of its hovering, obstacle avoidance and deceleration capabilities. The lander was suspended 70 meters above the ground on 36 huge steel cables, which rose up to 140 meters into the air.

China needs to fix its Human Rights report card and record first before probing around on other worlds that are of key interest to the whole of humanity. Where is the oversight here? Is Chinese activity and data from Mars going to be open sourced? Or is that censored too?

We here at the US are too busy arguing over our supposed president’s extortion actions with Ukraine while China becomes the 1 global leader in space exploration. So very sad! This makes us no longer proud of the USA in this category!
