SHANGHAI - The United States has underestimated the Chinese people’s will to fight a trade war and Beijing is prepared for a long economic battle, an influential Chinese Communist Party journal said on Sunday.
The editorial represented “a further mobilization of Chinese society” in the struggle against U.S. trade pressure, wrote Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of the state-run Global Times newspaper, in a tweet. The United States kicked off a tariff battle with China in 2018, seeking sweeping structural changes from Beijing and alleging that the Chinese have engaged in intellectual property theft over many years, which China denies.
Qiushi said U.S. consumers and businesses had reaped huge benefits from trade with China and warned that trade frictions would inevitably have a serious negative impact on the U.S. economy.

America will suffer and enters a big crisis if a long trade war happens. America's product is expensive and hard to compete,and the product which made the most profit for America is military machines. When all countries is in crisis they don't think about modernising their army.
In 2018, China's exports to the USA were worth $ 540 billion, while ours to China only $ 120 billion. If China does not make concessions very soon, Trump should impose high tariffs on all Chinese exports to the USA. And he should bar new Chinese students from MIT etc.
US can shift production of consumer products to Africa & other South Asian countries (both have low labor costs and huge labor force) which will help achieve 3 things: ensure that US consumers continue getting low cost products; put pressure on China; & mitigate trade spat risks.

I disagree that the USA & realDonaldTrump are fighting a trade WAR with China. The USA is simply looking at other options to gives it citizens, workers, & farmers, additional options that are fair and doesn't jeopardize America's national security as it has for decades.
As their goods become more expensive fewer people will continue to buy them!
We don't care. Not only can we ice them out of our market, we can pressure our businesses to share shift to friendlier waters. We can just as easily have a $300 billion trade def with India or South America. China needs us more than we need them.
