While progressives may have breathed a sigh of relief after some of his crucial votes this term, they aren't thrilled with Roberts either, noting that when he sides with the court's liberals, his decisions are often hairsplitters that leave plenty room for future challenges from the right.
If anything, he walked back some of the progress abortion rights advocates thought they had made in the 2016 decision, and he left plenty of room for anti-abortion forces to chip away atWhat appeared to stick in Roberts' craw was the fact that anti-abortion forces and the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals thought they could defy the court and flip the outcome just because one justice had retired and been replaced by a Trump appointee.
Instead, as Lazarus observes, Roberts"chose to use the case to make a point ... that there is such a thing as a court, and ... you can't expect us to behave like partisan legislators."
granny_st I think the point is, he actually gave Trump a roadmap to get rid of DACA? (Looks like Trump co-conspirators got the email).
The constitution
He didn't rule against anything. He ruled for democracy. The rule of law. The Constitution.
It's apparent to me he is up to upholding the law.
Roberts is what's wrong with the judiciary. Obama made a rule on personal whim. I have no problem with that. He was elected. Trump, elected in the same way, can remove it. Roberts says Trump needs a 'good' reason. Obama didn't need one. This is arbitrary and capricious.
Let’s hope they jump through those hoops. ✌🏾
Coronavirus Break News
Trump doesn’t do work
That's helpful, unlike government action to prevent a deadly plague. .
Roberts wants to be on the right side of History. Which is the correct side to be on for anyone wondering.
To end DACA is to give a pass to citizenship for every recipient. That's a good deed I agree with. What do we do with the continues flow of people across the border? That's the question. Why not satisfy the people on this side of the border and finish the wall?
The justices are supposed to interpret the law. Not interpret the law based on their political beliefs.
