Chicago is slated to get a pre-Broadway tryout of a new musical about the iconic American trumpeter and gravel-voiced singer Louis Armstrong, its producers — Thomas E. Rodgers Jr., Renee Rodgers and Andrew Delaplaine in association with Martian Entertainment — announced Tuesday. The show is to star James Monroe Iglehart, the actor best known for his Tony Award-winning performance as the Genie in the original Broadway production of the Disney musical “Aladdin.
The current push to Broadway will begin with a short run at the Saenger Theatre in Armstrong’s home city of New Orleans before a move to Chicago for a three-week run from Oct. 11-29 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, 151 W. Randolph St.

Broadway fans upset after paying top dollar to see ‘MJ’ understudies performTheater fans were peeved to show up to the musical on Saturday and learn that eight of the cast members were not performing that day. Ummm who else did they think was going to perform? Aww that's too bad. Those understudies work hard and can't wait for their 'big break' when they get the chance to be on stage and perform. I feel bad for them if the audience was disappointed. You know without those understudies, those people would not be seeing a show. They need to stop their complaining.
