Chicago Police Department memo cancels all officers' days off over Memorial Day Weekend

An internal CPD memo obtained by the ABC7 I-Team Monday night, and now being read at police district roll calls, orders that all days off be canceled for one full week between Tuesday May 24 and the following Tuesday, May 31.

Officers may also be put on 12 hour work shifts during that time"if operational needs arise" according to the memo. It is expected that downtown retail corridors will get special attention during that period as well. CPD has increased staffing levels at times in recent years after especially high-crime weekends, but typically canceling just one day off across ranks. According to the police department order, the upcoming holiday will require that officers work straight through their regularly scheduled off days.

More cops leaving the job now.

I bet they can’t wait to work. I’m glad I’ll be out of town.

Pretty sure this has happened at Memorial Day before. They never plan ahead.

Memorial day is super violent. I lost a very dear loved one on this day back in 2014. I'll be out there, trying to save someone's life in my church van. I urge people to grab their phones and do the same.

Cancelled for what? Doesn't matter if they're on the clock if no work is being done. Why is this unsolved when witnesses gave a name & address? Unacceptable. issues

A CPD Officer should be able to give an account for every hour. It shouldn’t be I set in a parking lot talking to beat 415 for 2 hours then took a hour washroom break Lunch for an hour. 4 hours to go - personal call paying bills -3 hours to go. Shots fired waited on dispatch!

It matters if you can’t account for the Officers work day. 2) arrested 5) pulled overs on suspicion of stolen autos . 3) tickets. If you can’t account for 10 contacts with the public in a Days work we are paying 8 a day for police to duck and hide and complain about having a job.

Collecting more $ and will NOT be around when 💩 happens.. just collecting TAX Payers $ and doing ABSOLUTELY 💩 2 earn it..

They do it almost every year nothing new
