Chicago's proof of COVID vaccine mandate has slowed down business even more during the already slow month of January, some restaurants said.

Customers often spend less after the holidays, and the cold weather and fear of the omicron variant are keeping them inside. Now some businesses say the new rule is adding to it.

"It's nothing we are doing against them, we are just trying to keep the business afloat and keep everybody healthy," she said. Nuevo Leon customer Julio Quiles said he and his family had COVID last month. He and his friends didn't know about the new rule when they came into the restaurant earlier this week, but Friday they were back with their vaccination cards at the ready.

Tis well

No shit really?

I work in the restaurant business. This is always the slowest week of the year.

ABC7--We salute your impressive grasp of the obvious! 😂

but the mayor said that businesses were happy with the mandate

Proving vax is causing slowdown? C’mon, get real

Great job Mayor Beetlejuice

Good! Let them go out of business since they want to adhere to a silly mandate (not a law) imposed by chicagosmayor LoriLightfoot and ToniPreckwinkle. Im taking my city of Chicago paycheck into other counties and spending it.

Only one restaurant is mentioned in this story. I’m not doubting this news, but c’mon ABC7, do some reporting pls.

Should completely finish off Chicago business. Everything Democrats touch turn to 💩

Everywhere I go into seems extra slow. Sometimes I wonder if they r even open. It’s sad.

Could the frigid temperatures have anything to do with the low numbers?

My kids are not getting a new Biotechnology as there is no benefit to them. The CURRENT child hospitalization rate is 0.004%. Because my kids can’t go, we won’t go.

We all have opinions of vaccines. Proof or not, it is what it is

Maybe people have more common sense than politicians give us credit for. Omicron evades the vaccines. Many of us don't want a mild case of Omicron dinner nor covid cakes! Thank you.

Now some of these restaurants I think are just full of it. I've eaten out 7/8 times already and not once was I asked for proof of vaccination. There's no way to enforce this and restaurants are just trying to get you in and out. This was no solution!

Why would anyone be surprised by this

They have refrigerated morgue trucks outside of the hospitals again. Why anyone is running around unvaccinated is beyond help at this point. GetVaccinated

The covid proof mandate is the smartest they’ve done .

People's rights are being violated by people calling them 'dangerous' for not getting some unnecessary procedure. Its a pretty polarizing thing. You are surprised some people don't support rights violations under the untrue guise of 'Safety'?

Wow didn’t see that one coming!

This is ABC7's idea of 'news.'

Well, Lori wants to make businesses feel uncomfortable or something. So she's winning.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 great job Lori! That was predictable

Yeah it’s bullshit. Boycott until they lift the mandates!!! No more mandates!!

Chicago Public Schools cancels Friday classes amid ongoing teachers union standoff, record COVID-19 casesChicago Public Schools canceled Friday classes as a standoff with the teachers union spills into a third day of educational disruption. Meanwhile, we’re messing with these kids lives so adults can play politics… the CTU lost any remaining goodwill during their last strike. to not be working again is on brand but also absolutely absurd. they aren't the only people being asked to work outside their home during the pandemic. kids need to be in school, parents need to be at work, etc. 1/2 What a shit show. Whether or not school should be in session is not the main issue. The utterly incompetent, adversarial management of these decisions by the mayor IS the issue. She’s beyond inept in most dimensions.
