Explainer: Mount Etna puts on its latest spectacular show

Mount Etna, the volcano that towers over eastern Sicily, evokes superlatives

White people do not get mad about shit being named after them. You never hear white people say, “the Dallas Cowboys is offensive”. So if Native Americans think the Jeep Grand Cherokee is offensive I propose we rename it the Jeep Grand Wizard. Just change it to the 'Jeep Grand Wizard' Yup, time to cancel Jeep

Thank the gods!!! A new crusade for the holier-than- thou white folks to take up arms about. We were worried a day would pass. Some names so you can try and see it from their perspective. 'Jeep Caucasian, Jeep African American, Jeep Mexican, Jeep Italian, Jeep Irish, Jeep Jewish, Jeep Arabic, Jeep Canadian, Jeep Japanese, Jeep Korean' If any of those sound 'off' then you get what the Cherokee are saying.

What’s wrong with the name Just enjoy the ride! But if they send you royalties to this account then it’s probably fine. When will we be seeing the Ford “WhiteMan?” Insanity Why we are at it. Can we ban the New England 'Patriots' name also. You know, because of the Trump followers. And the Los Angeles 'Chargers' also, but mostly because they suck.

But plastered on the front of a casino is so honorable. Got it. Next up: The Apache helicopter. What kind of gratitude is that after Andrew Jackson saved them? Back in the day it was considered a sign of esteem, respect, or honor to have something named after you. Guess that’s gone to sht How about giving them the original land back

LOL This is getting ridiculous. Does this mean we can’t have Cuban sandwiches Chinese food? American Express has to change its name. Canadian bacon? French fries? What is happening to the world? I think the body snatchers invaded earth.... That’s right. The name Cherokee should only be reserved for all the accomplishments of the Cherokee nation.

New names for the Jeep , for people that think it’s silly Cherokee Nation saying this ... The Jeep Paleface The Jeep Cracker ... When beeped it’s horn goes Honky A Pink Jeep , just called The Jeep Karen The Jeep Entitlement The Jeep Peckerwood The Jeep Whitey... Ugh. They need to pay them that's their name being used we know what Cherokee represents and if your not a minority you wouldn't really understand and don't care you dont see them making the Chevy Jordan 23 because they can't used his name for free

I think it’s very honorable. Whatever the Native Americans want at this point after the way this country has treated them...America needs to stfu and give it to them. Hahahahaha. Deep breath. Hahahahaha Neither does it dishonor you. There must be something more important for a chief to be doing. How about men! Will men be offended that “dickies” uses a piece of male anatomy?

They don't want to be associated with things of power and beauty? Fine. The tribes seem to want to be completely eliminated from this nation's consciousness. They can have that if they want. They certainly are fighting for it. Was this actually about money? Jeep's response to the Chief respectfully Tell that to the Periodic Table Of Elements

I introduce to you CHIEF KAREN Lest we forget that the Cherokee not only supported the Confederacy during the Civil War, but also owned slaves, including blacks! Don Cheadle's ancestors were slaves to the Cherokee! So, sit your a$$ down! If jeep paid them a royalty check for usage of the name, would they still protest?

No word yet from the Grand Cherokee Makes sense. They don’t want such an ugly vehicle to represent them Jeep should be paying the Cherokee nation for the use of their name. It is only the privilege of the white man that has no retribution against him for theft of a nations name. Once again institutionalized bias against none whites is found to be acceptable.

I don’t blame them, the Jeep Cherokee is a notorious piece of shit. It is a little odd that they waited this long but it seems as though this is the time of speaking up when you have been screwed for years. Times change 🙂 It is time to make right for so much wrong. Jeep can surely find a replacement name fit to its own heritage. Cherokee Reparations NativeAmericans Jeep CherokeeNation

Maybe more vehicles should be named after other ethnicities, and cultural references. How about the... Nubian Celtic Saxon Gypsy Tinker Gaeltacht Tatar Avar etc... This guy called. Sounded kind of pissed. Said he wanted to talk to someone over at American Motors Corp. Call it the Tony Jackson it won't hurt my feelings.

Love reading all the whitesplaining comments here........ Excellent Well then, I want my name removed from Nutty Bars and all the rest of Little Debbie snacks; and the picture of Little Debbie on the box - that’s not me! I don’t know who that is, but it sure as hell ain’t me! US government has about a dozen helicopters gonna need news names in about a minute.

Wow. Leave it to Wiki. Why not arrange a 'licensing fee' to use the name? Charge Jeep x amount of dollars for every Cherokee they sell. Both parties benefit. Actually, the name personifies strength and durability...its not a negative characterization. And, well...I guess GM saw the Pontiac thing coming. So there’s about a hundred towns in NJ alone...

A donation to the great Cherokee Nation of an all terrain Jeep Cherokee as an honor to the Cherokee Nation has worked somewhere else, Jeep just saying, don't take my word for it PR So, “Renegade” is probably next? Good to see the Cherokee Nation have evolved from hunting animals, to hunting easy lawsuits for companies.. Love it. Capitalism at its best.

How about the “apace” attack helicopter? Fords new Colonist garbage truck doesn't see a problem. After decades it’s suddenly a problem? Give me a break.... I’m of Cherokee descent. It came out in 1974. I mean, really? Amazing... for Jeep, it is obviious that the name represents strength, honest quality, durability ... One would thing those are qualities that any people would like as their descriptives...

New names...hmmmm, jeep...? They may as well get in on the whole “cancel” stuff too Pay them off. Cherokee nation don't have casino, oil wells or copper mines. They need the money. Cherokee Nation Chief: Perhaps if it was on a Mercedes, or something hot like a Tesla.. - Chief of the Cherokee Nation wants Jeep to stop using the tribe's name on its vehicles. '..it does not honor us by having our name plastered on the side of a car'

I am all for recognizing the indigenous people, do we have to change every city name and state name too ? Or Pay the tribe royalties. Like FSU Seminoles An opinion by the chief Cherokee Nation...long overdue.! When will this insanity end? Wondered when this would happen. Even meant respectfully, it's Cherokee Nation's name--their call.

Not really sure that this is a fight worth having. He should be complaining about why American cars can’t do cornering or build & material quality but also pollute so much. I don't think it is insulting.. geesh! And a Jeep Cherokee has been around for how long? Unless they all get a free car. Hmmm.. how about National SUV-like vehicle with numbers on panels? Of course, CitizensUnited.... dah-dah-dah-!!!

I'm so surprised on how I make so much profits through crypo currency after seeing many people complain of being scammed, this is so amezing am still shocked Evely_morris Fix it Jeep 'I'm sure this comes from a place that is well-intended, but it does not honor us by having our name plastered on the side of a car,' Chuck Hoskin Jr., principal chief of the Cherokee Nation, said in a statement.

Jeep ICYMI GOOD! Every company, every brand, every single thing owned by white people that used Native American tribal names needs to be changed. Hmmm... my personal opinion is this: if it so offended the Cherokee nation, why didn't they say something when the first iteration of Jeep Cherokee was released? Decades later makes this seem only a stunt to annoy and cause trouble.

All part of the cancel culture. He should be honored that it keeps the great Cherokee name on the lips of a nation that is trying to cancel history. While it’s not my call - I just don’t get why it’s offensive when the name is used to reflect a positive image. Lol Just call it the 'white people 'car.Or just whitey.or what ever.Oh no can't name it what you want . huh

Who gave Cherokee nation control / trademark rights on the work Cherokee ? Does he also own the words nation/ Indian / wampum ... words are not trademarked and tgere use .. if I tato Cherokee on my ass what’s he going to do to my ass ? Is there any end to this BS... First the muppets now this..🙄 They've had since 1974 to say something. 🙄

does it have to honor you? this censoring is getting ridiculous. 🔻 What next? Men will require this brand to stop using their 🍆 as a brand name? 🤣🤣🤣 🔻 🔻 What next? Going after medical wear! 🔹 Please STOP 🛑 the INSANITY! LakotaMan1 'Native Americans don't have a problem with the na...oh wait. How do we complain & make this into a cancel culture thing?' - beckoned the racist imbeciles.

Good thing there isn't the Comanche PU anymore. I owned one, as well as a Cherokee. Guess there goes that name. It took this chief this long to raise an objection? They are welcome to name it after me. BlackCheesebur1 Make them pay for everytime they used your name! The Cherokee has been around since the late 80s and they are just now mentioning this? That's bull****

I agree with the Chief, I suggest that they should use Alphabet and number just like SRT-8 👍 Why is Jeep having a model named Cherokee now all of the sudden an outrage after 46 years? Jeep has been making this vehicle for like 40 years and NOW there is a problem with it? I find it a day late and a dollar short to be complaining now. Although the publicity would boost sales for Jeep if they did a name change.

Especially a POS car !! When did this become a big deal? it is their name. although, i think it is an americanized version.. some tribes don't recognize americanized names. due to american army attacking & killing their chief. in response to another tribes unprovoked attack. to protect the land. offer them a percentage point on sales.

Jeep Grand Wizard isn’t going to go over very well. Overexemplification of a word. Respect to Cherokee Nation, but claiming a word is blasphemy. An underlying issue could be Jeep Cherokees tied to U.S. militaristic Jeep war efforts and Fiat s.P.A. Italian royalty disenfranchisements. Maybe they should have copyrighted the name decades ago

Sounds like a great idea. Just lease the name from the Native American Tribe. And to the Cherokee Nation...soak em!! I am not thrilled that a for-profit NFL team as bad as the Vikings has the name of my ancestors on it either. In ways I understand this, in ways I think it's petty nonsense. Is there a word for electrical issues they could use?

Why does he get any say in the matter? Pontiac 👀 I agree with the chief. Good I noticed they didn’t use the comanche moniker for the truck again . Seems they would be open to changing it. Where were they when they first made this model? So now words should only apply to what we want them apply to huh? Can’t use that name because it’s a tribal name. Can’t use that name because it’s offensive to Gerbils. Better not use that name it’s offensive to whores. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Here is a few million now go away. That's why I'm getting a white Bronco Grand Dane, Grand Norman would be better anyways Hasn’t bothered them before... jumping on the “hot and bothered” bandwagon. What about the helicopters? And so NOW they complain after this being on these vehicles for how long I mean they have a point

then don't look at it Huh? Soft
