But in a league where players are hoping to show enough to reach the NFL, there’s no complaining about having to share the carries.
“They’re just genuinely excited about each other,” Holtz said. “There’s a togetherness, there’s a bond with these guys. And I think that was all built through camp. I think we spent a lot of time building our culture and teaching some of our new guys what is expected, and I think these players have brought in and they’re very talented and that’s why we’ve been able to overcome a lot of that coaching by the head coach.
The Stallions have pulled the rope to 14 consecutive victories. Birmingham has not lost since a 27-20 setback to the Houston Gamblers on May 13, 2023. With a playoff berth already in hand, the Stallions play Houston at 7 p.m. CDT Saturday at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. ESPN2 will televise the game.
“We’ve talked a lot about handling success, and that’s been a big message that I’ve talked about with this football team. It’s easy to stumble with success because we live in a society that wants to pat itself on the back and wants to say, ‘Attaboy, great job. You guys are really good.’ And when you start believing all that, that’s when you’re susceptible to failing, so right now our job is not done.
