James Beard Award-winning chef Chris Shepherd is departing Underbelly Hospitality, and the restaurants he built.Chris Shepherd, the James Beard Award-winning chef whose collection of restaurants helped put Houston on the national dining scene, is stepping away from his Underbelly Hospitality restaurant group.
“I’ve put my heart and soul into these restaurants, and I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished. I want to thank the entire Underbelly family for always being there, showing up and giving it everything, always,” Shepherd said. “Thank you, Houston, for the past, present and future support. This is my home, and I’m not going anywhere. I’m excited to see what the future holds for all of us.”
"There will be a buyout. We're working on that at this moment," Mason said, adding that Shepherd will be separating from Underbelly Hospitality in negotiations he called"amicable." Underbelly Hospitality also is going forward with the opening of Pastore, the second restaurant at Regent Square where the new, relocated
Mason praised Shepherd's work in building the restaurant group. MLB had this to say in a statement: “Chris is an incredible talent. We are grateful for his immense contributions to both Underbelly and the industry as a whole. Our talented team will continue to deliver Underbelly’s signature fare with unmatched technique and hospitality. Our focus has been and will continue to be the delivery of thoughtful food and beverage experiences.
