SP Plus Corp. is taking over airport parking, shuttle services as airport looks to modernize operations

Parking reservations and discounts on spaces are on the way to San Antonio International Airport as officials move toward privatization. Chicago -based SP Plus Corp. will take take over parking and shuttle operations at the airport within three months, pending City Council approval next week. Travelers can start reserving parking spots by early fall. Down the road, SP Plus will discount spaces during slow travel period to fill spots that would otherwise go empty.

The airport’s two garages often fill up, pushing passengers out to two large surface lots from which they have to catch shuttles. Record-breaking travel volumes also forced officials to designate an overflow parking lot. Additional parking spaces are coming in 2028 as part of the airport’s $2.

Privatizing parking operations will be a major shift for 34 of the airport's 56 parking division employees.
