defensive end Chase Young was ruled out of Sunday’s season opener against the Arizona Cardinals because of a stinger, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. Young has been medically cleared for contact in practice, but the team wants to see how his body responds before putting him back into a game, that person said.
Young told reporters earlier this week that he expected to play Sunday and was “ready to go.” Both he and the team were awaiting final word from doctors, which was expected Friday. The team initially listed him as questionable.“Chase has worked very hard, gotten himself into great shape,” Coach Ron Rivera said Friday. “Even during this whole process, he’s done everything he’s needed to do.
It’s plausible Young returns for Week 3, when the Commanders host the Buffalo Bills. The team will have had two weeks of seeing him in practice by that point. The Commanders travel to Denver to face the Broncos in Week 2. To add some depth to the line in Young’s absence, the Commanders activated defensive end William Bradley-King from the practice squad Friday.Receiver Dax Milne was placed on injured reserve with a groin injury and will miss at least the next four weeks. Crowder gives Washington another option as a returner.
Veteran receiver Terry McLaurin, who suffered mild turf toe in the second preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, was removed from the injury report Friday and will play Sunday.
