LaCedrick Napoleon Davis, 19, made an initial appearance to the new charge on Thursday. Because he was younger than 21 at the time, he is eligible for consideration as a “youthful offender,” which would seal his court records and limit any potential punishment to three years in prison. A judge on Thursday set a hearing on that issue for June 27.
The shooting occurred March 14 last year on Northwest Drive in the Chrichton community of Mobile. According to police, a gunman fired into a car, killing 27-year-old Cedric Lynch Jr. Prosecutors allege that Davis, who shares a child with Lynch’s girlfriend, went over to her home and hid in her laundry room. A detectiveat a hearing last year that Davis shot at Lynch with a revolver and that the victim fired back with a .380-caliber pistol. Davis then fired two more times, striking Lynch in the in the eye and forearm, according to testimony.
The detective also testified that Lynch’s girlfriend tried to swear out a criminal complaint against Davis less than two weeks before the shooting, accusing him of threatening on March 3, 2023, to kill her and that he sent her a video three days later showing himself with a silver revolver. But, according to the testimony, a city magistrate determined that there was insufficient evidence to issue an arrest warrant.
