Charges dropped for hundreds of alleged looters in New York City.

"I was in total shock that everything is being brushed off to the side," said Jessica Betancourt, whose Bronx eyeglass shop was looted last June.Johannes Eisele / AFP via Getty Images fileIn late May and early June 2020, looters smashed storefronts in the Bronx and Manhattan boroughs of New York City.

"I was in total shock that everything is being brushed off to the side," said Jessica Betancourt, who owns an eyeglass shop that was looted and destroyed along Burnside Avenue in the Bronx last June. In Manhattan, much of the looting occurred in the upscale neighborhood of Soho. Amid the Covid pandemic, mobs and organized criminals were taking advantage of huge protests in the city after the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd. The NYPD data shows there were 485 arrests in Manhattan. Of those cases, 222 were later dropped and 73 resulted in convictions for lesser counts like trespassing, which carries no jail time.

The NYPD did set up a task force after the riots to examine videos and photos to separate suspected rioters from peaceful protesters. That work shares similarities with what the FBI is doing in making hundreds of arrests after the riot at the U.S. Capitol. "We had to analyze each case individually and see if, in fact, we could prove the right person had committed the crime," Arias said.

Before dropping a case, Vance told his prosecutors to review defendants' criminal histories, whether police could really place the suspect at the scene, and whether the individual caused"any damage to the store."

This is ridiculous.

What about these looters? Just curious

This is not right at all!

This is unfair, and it gives ammo to right-ests who do not want charges and an investigation into the deadly January 6 insurrection!

Of course! 😡

HeyTammyBruce WHY.....

two tier justice

HeyTammyBruce Pure BullS__t

Get out of New York

Justice?

Is this more BLM protestors?

As a Chinese,I just want to laugh loudly~~

'Sources in the DA's offices in Manhattan and the Bronx said that evidence, in some cases, was simply not strong enough for proof beyond a reasonable doubt.'

If they had looted on January 6, they would be under the jailhouse with the key thrown away.

Of course more were charged in Manhattan than the Bronx, either way any who participated should be fined & given community service hrs at the least if they were bold enough / stupid enough to be videotaped doing it. Another Failure of the court systems in major metropolitan areas

So who's going to pay for all those ruined businesses?

How about the very documented insurrection on the Capitol 1/6 that you abd yr buddies refuse to investigate. Justice to you guys really must be blind. Wake up Teddy. Worry about a serious assault in Democrat.

of course, would expect nothing less

Have they been Republican looters, rest assure these crimes would have been prosecuted to the full extend of the law.

Alleged lol

“Alleged” you literally filmed them doing it. Law and order no longer exists in blue states it seems.

I'm sure that makes you all happy. I hope whoever dropped the charges meets up with those criminals in an alley some day.

Outstanding precedent for the future, NYC.

Next move….drop the prosecution of the Jan 6 members….why? Because it’s the same f’n thing as all these clowns….

If you own a business- you need to protect it yourself. By any means necessary. It’s obvious the government isn’t going to help you.

This action proves that crime does pay. It's for the BLM supporters to teach values of you don't loot your brother or start his business on fire. The double standard should end today as part of Juneteenth.

30ACTruth Who made that decision?

Black privilege

Ridiculous!!!

I hope they come back and do 10x the damage they did before. That’s what you get in these far left democratic cities rife with crimes.

LonnekeEngel Stores should hire in store social workers to deal with this issue

Here we go again Joe protection 4 criminals

Great idea. Reward thugs for their illegal acts.

Not “alleged” They did it

Culturally enriched NYC

Fucking pathetic

Failed city

Infuriating. Honest citizens are paying higher prices to this day (stemming from increased insurance costs, etc)

Welcome to liberal paradise and biden's America

Disgraceful

This is going to be a feature of all blue cities going forward, is it?

Sad state of affairs!

Alleged” they were bailed out by the likes of komala

Diversity kills

NYC just fucked over small businesses and the people that work there.

Amazing This is good work NBC, good on you

Of course. That’s what shit-hole cities do. NYC is one of the dirtiest and tax-costliest cities in the US, and it’s gotten worse under BilldeBlasio and andrewcuomo.

Alleged? See, this is why justice in this country is a joke. I will enjoy it when people one day fed fed up and take back power over their country from this corrupt system and restore true government.

Does this actually surprise anyone?

We are supposed to be a nation of laws.

Shocker….

Then end the Jan 6 crap if it’s ok. Crime needs punished

Crime does pay.

Shoot on sight.

The US is fast becoming a failed state.

“Alleged” 🙄

America and Justice is a foreign concept....they release looter who destroyed livelihoods and jail pple expressing their political thought in a public/Federal building....America has political prisoners!

Looks like our lousy justice system got it right for once … lack of evidence does not mean they’re guilty

The DA said there are cases being prosecuted. The ones where they have evidence. Police arrested hundreds of demonstrators with no evidence of wrongdoing. Those people are at last released.

If they were 'alleged looters' then why did charges need to be dropped?

In a way the BLM protesters are correct. There are two separate legal systems in America. Except they’re divided not by race, but by political ideology.

Good.

Were they all FBI Agents?

This is the future liberals want

I swear we have no real rule of law in America
