As politicians continue to battle over the southern border , the ripple effects are being felt in Central Pennsylvania . The meeting lasted more than 3 hours with passionate public comments. Daniel Alvalle, the Pennsylvania State Director for CASA, knows the struggles of immigrants all too well. 'They simply want an opportunity and equitable opportunity to create a pathway, maybe for themselves, but definitely for their children and for generations to come,' said Alvalle.
The resolution was introduced after two of the commissioners cited concerns over public safety and the potential strain on resources if undocumented migrants were to flood the county. Lancaster County Commissioner Josh Parsons questioned, 'Because what other law are you going to decide that you don’t like and you’re gonna tell your police force not to obey?' One community member at the meeting that agreed with the resolution added, 'This massive inflow of people into our country will take resources, will bankrupt our hospital systems, it will take our tax money and divert it from the people who deserve it who have already been here.' Now, it not only labels Lancaster County as 'non-sanctuary' but also calls for the repeal of a recent city ordinance that limits city officials from investigating a person’s immigration status without direct orders from state or federal authorities
