The tape 'is serving no purpose and at this stage is causing serious issues with our juvenile and adult wildlife,' volunteers from the center say.

r in Washington Boro, Lancaster County, made a plea earlier this week to all those who have wrapped lanternfly tape around their trees as a way to catch them.Too many other animals are mistakenly getting attached to it and suffering injuries.

The post went on to point out that two bats recently ventured into the tape and had to be removed, “but not without heartbreak. The first bat has a broken wing that we are not sure if it will heal properly for flight, the second bat was a nursing mother that now two baby bats are starving to death. This now effects 4 bat lives for 1 lanternfly that was stuck to the tape.

By now, most residents of central and eastern Pennsylvania are families with lanternflies, an invasive pest that was discovered in Berks County in 2014.

Haven’t seen birds get stuck on them, only bees 🐝 & ants 🐜 Anyway the sticky tape doesn’t stop the nasty lantern flies from damaging trees or plants.

Wait...I thought the tape was settled science when it was recommended
