Police said Derek S. Weachter was arrested on Wednesday after he doused his bed with gasoline and set it on fire in March.

A 31-year-old man was charged with arson and related charges after he set his Lancaster County home on fire in March and left the scene while his roommates were inside, according to police.

The resident told police he smelled gas and that Weachter set the house on fire. He also said Weachter told him that he had gas for the police if they came. Weachter told police there was gasoline in his room, and he poured it and lit a cigarette, which caused his bed to catch fire, according to the affidavit.

Police interviewed residents who said Weachter placed the gas can on the back porch. After the fire, he ran out the back porch and took the gas can with him, which prevented state police from collecting this as part of the investigation.
