“Cable was probably a precursor to the changing news landscape,” she added. “Having spent so much time in cable, that news wheel, updating with the smallest incremental bits, was perhaps a test drive for what lied ahead in social media.”
“It was a change for all of us in journalism to still put context, and still put perspective, around information,” she added. “Sometimes we feel a bit cheated by that when it’s just a quick soundbite. And while this part of social media has certainly altered the job of a journalist, but it has also gotten our work out there.
“Representation is always incredibly important, so for me I felt it was another step forward for a female to have this role,” noted Brennan, who also cites a staff onthat is primarily women. “It also happened at a time when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. So, while I was certainly ecstatic to have this opportunity, I also worried how I could do it all.”
