CDPR Announces A Live-Action ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Show (Or Movie)

Here’s The Exact Time The ‘Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III’ PlayStation Beta Starts And How To Play EarlyCyberpunk 2077 development may now be fully over after the release of Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty, but in the wake of that redemption arc, CDPR has justThe project will be made with Anonymous Content, who has produced shows like True Detective and Mr. Robot, and movies like The Revenant and Spotlight.

That line alone says to me that this is almost certainly not going to be a direct adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077 starring V, Johnny and all the rest. Rather, a new story in the same universe, similar to what CDPR has already done with the Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and its first novel, Cyberpunk 2077: No Coincidence. As much as people like V, CDPR wants to expand the world of Cyberpunk and Night City. At least we assume this will be in Night City.

There are not any details in the rest of the release, past the fact that this is live-action, made in partnership with Anonymous content and that it will be “developed in close collaboration with the Cyberpunk 2077 creative team.” So they’re not just handing off the IP to a bunch of randoms who didn’t work on the game and its various memorable storylines.

While I do not believe that this story will focus on V or adapting the game, I do have to wonder if we could at least see some crossover characters. The cast of Night City is vast, and it feels like there could be some opportunity there. Or you know, what theydo is a series centered not on V, but a prequel or sequel to the game story starring I don’t know, Judy or Panam. Just saying.

Even though video game projects remain relatively tough to adapt, the industry is better at doing it than it used to be, as we have seen in everything from Sonic to The Last of Us to well, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Hell, even Twisted Metal was good. So yes, I am excited for this, but it will likely be years before anything is ready to be released.
