The CDC declined a request from NBC News to answer questions about the change on the agency's website, referring all media queries to the Department of Health and Human Services.
Dr. Brett Giroir, the assistant secretary for health at the department, who oversees coronavirus testing for the Trump administration, said in an emailed statement that the guidance"has been updated to reflect current evidence and best public health practices.
That means testing"anyone who's been in close contact with a known positive so that we can find out for sure whether the contact is also infected," Saag said."That's important, not only for the individual's health, but also for their contacts."Such a situation is occurring in Danbury, Connecticut. Therecently reported a"significant spike" of 178 COVID-19 cases in Danbury during the first two weeks of August.
"This is a serious outbreak in Danbury, and we really need an all-hands-on-deck approach," Dr. Deidre Gifford, acting commissioner for the Connecticut Department of Public Health, said in a statement."We are urging anyone who thinks they may have been exposed to get tested as soon as possible."
When you have people who care only for what 45 says, this is what happens. If someone has no symptoms, but it's positive, they are spreading the virus. Simple as that. They don't know if they were exposed if there is no contact tracing. This is pure bullshit.
Do you know if this new guidance will change how universities are testing? NickdelaTorreGC
80% of people infected with the the China virus have no symptoms. so it makes sense for CDC to ignore those people, they don't need a test, even if they spread the virus. GO CDC!!! VOTE QUIMBY!
Cue armchair virologists....
So they can go around infecting everyone around them?
That is just stupid.
'Some experts say that could result in fewer people being tested.' That's the whole point. If we test less people, we'll confirm less cases.
This is bullshit
This is one of the reason we can’t control this pandemic. Back and forth on guidance and protocols
What? Crazy.
While they await their 4-7 day test results.. Symptoms may arrive by then, at which point they can obtain another 4-7 day test like their family member. That's thinking.
So we’re just done with asymptomatic people?
TRUST THE SCIENTISTS!!!!!!!! well obviously not those scientists.........
Unintelligent. We're getting stupid after trump took over the WH.
This is the secret to the New Zealand COVID success story. Much, much, less testing than USA.
But shouldn't they be tested so they don't spread it
Bending to Trump, once again.
Wow. To bad we already knew that.
So trump was right. Again.
1981 Edge of Darkness, written by Dean Koontz.... funny how fiction shines a light on the future.
Tests should be only for symptoms.
Wow. Do we all see now. Do we all realize this has been a bunch of BS since the beginning! How can they possibly Not know So much about a virus thats been around for 56 years 🙄 Wake up Sheeple !
Imagine a virus so deadly that most don't ever know they have it and you can protect yourself with a mask that a kid made in their kitchen.
Oh no we’re going to stop testing for a virus where 99.6% of infected recover? THE HUMANITY!!!
Let healthy people go back to work, school and church 🙏🙏
So if it takes 7-10 days, sometimes longer to show symptoms, this makes ZERO sense!
Still no testing strategy...
Ya think? I’m sure trump will be happy. Less tests, less cases right?
Yep trying to kill us all.
Yes, more testing, not less is needed in our community outside of New Orleans. During the beginning of the month, we were testing 32% positive and almost 75% of those were asymptomatic.
