Breaking: A CDC panel recommended that people ages 75 and up and essential workers—including teachers and grocery-store staff—be next in line for Covid-19 vaccines

A federal advisory panel recommended Sunday that both the nation’s oldest, most vulnerable people and front-line essential workers be offered the next place in line for Covid-19 vaccines, hoping to use limited vaccine supplies in early 2021 both to reduce hospitalizations and deaths and slow transmission of the virus.

This next group would include people ages 75 and older, whose hospitalization and death rates are the highest of all age groups. It would also include teachers, factory workers, police and firefighters, grocery store workers and others who are considered essential to the functioning of the economy and at high risk of exposure to Covid-19.

A third group would follow them, comprised of people between the ages of 65 and 74, anyone age 16 or over with a medical condition that puts them at high risk of complications from Covid-19, and other essential workers. They include people who work in transportation and logistics, food service, water and wastewater, and energy sectors.

The recommendations were made by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which voted 13-1 in favor. The ACIP advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on who should get vaccines and how they should be used. If the recommendation is accepted by the director, then these groups will be offered vaccine after front-line health-care workers and nursing home residents who are being vaccinated now.

Fine. Just exclude Republican Legislators who did nothing while hundreds of thousands of Americans died.

I thought schools were safe places with very little spread of the virus? 🤔

Has the CDC never been trained in risk assessments? A16 year old grocery store worker who may already have had Covid should not get priority over a 74 year old cardiac patient!

I agree

Teachers and grocery staff over 65 then over 60 then over 50 as a risk based solution. Don’t go down to the lower age brackets just because they’re essential workers. Form a logical line and Do it smart to save the most lives.

Followed by the incarcerated, and those on death row.

LESSON FOR WE INDIANS TO FOLLOW

How come Biden hasn’t got the vaccine?

Insane. We continue to not do a risk based analysis. And the teachers bit is a nice touch. Do they have to be in school? Or can the ones who have been walked off from the world by their unions in the same boat as the real heroes who have been out there working?

This is wrong. Do it all by age and comorbidities. Start with the oldest and most vulnerable and proceed thru to the youngest and healthiest. No priority for anyone based upon their job

CyrusToulabi Right after all members of Congress and all their wealthy donors and their families are vaccinated, I’m sure they’ll get right on it.

If you focused on vaccinating everyone over the age of 65 you could in the strain on hospitals and essentially in the pandemic. You should also be testing for antibodies and stopped vaccinating people who have already been infected until we have enough vaccine

Delivery independent contractors need included as frontline workers.

Young and healthy are prioritized over 70 year olds. Who are the imbeciles that sit on that panel? I have no words to describe this atrocity, except a message to the young & healthy that are being invited to get the vaccine: DO NOT COMPLY. If you do, you're complicit.

As long as they’re not honkeys

Why did non essential politicians get it first?
