A report released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that about 33% of people who become sick enough to require hospitalization from COVID-19 are African American.
The study of about 1,500 hospitalized patients underscores the long-standing racial disparities in health care in the U.S. And it documents what's been seen in other coronavirus outbreaks around the world — people with chronic health conditions have a higher likelihood of developing a serious illness after being infected with coronavirus.
People who were hospitalized had a wide range of symptoms. The most common symptoms at the time of hospital admission were cough , fever or chills , and/or shortness of breath . Upset stomach and gastrointestinal symptoms were documented as well: 27% had diarrhea and 24% reported nausea or vomiting.
I think it goes back to diet and the lack of access to quality food. We have to do something about food deserts in this country including the food in our public schools. The highly processed food in this country causes diabetes, obesity, cancer etc... bad with COVID-19
A lack of vit d!!!!

Simmonsjoseph19 I don't even know how to respond to this except shaking my head. The obvious question is, why?Inevitably, there will be those that victim blame. I dream of an America that the general thought process is common sense. Still, a way to go...
NOLAlatinx It’s interesting to me, that it takes a pandemic, to hold up the Mirror to America, Blacks have never been in America’s reflection, when it comes to ANY INEQUALITY!!!!
KenyanBunnie How come the CDC won’t release the data for how many werewolves have been killed by the disease? Is it cause they are afraid that the numbers will show that our oppression has led to a staggering number of werewolf deaths from COVID-19?
If only there was a “universal” way to cover everyone 🤔
a_fly_guy This illuminates the massively unfair health care system. Poverty is a death sentence, no matter your race. No pay? No meds, No care, Die alone. I wonder how suicide rates look when you put them next to inequality of health care? jojoptyoga CJ_isnowblue
nhannahjones This virus does not discriminate and we need to practice social distancing. Yet we keep going to families houses, gatherings act like we are exempt.
refundpolicy How is it that 13% of the population gets brought up all the time. I thought we were past inequality.
This isn't surprising at all.

LabyrinthWeaver What it means is your 'African Americans' didn't follow the guidelines for slowing the spread of the virus.
LabyrinthWeaver We need to change our diets
now’s the perfect time for racial baiting
Maybe.

Their diabetes and cigarette smoking is disproportionately higher
Stay in your house. Wash your hands. No matter what race you are it applies. COVID-19 is an equal opportunity virus. Race is not an excuse to sidestep attitude, behavior, social and personal responsibility.
And, apparently we need another study on ig'nant assumptions about what they know nothing.
AND ALSO, ALOT OF BLACK PEOPLE WATCH CNN, NPR & NY1 WHO SCARED BLACK PEOPLE IN TO THINKING THEY HAD IT, THEY THEN WENT ON LONG LINES TO GET TESTED WITH PEOPLE WHO HAD AND CAUGHT AND DIED !!! FEEL RESPONSIBLE WHILE YOU STILL FUCK WITH UNFULLY UNQUANTIFIED NUMBERS!
No, it doesn't.
Hmm despite only being 13% of the population they account for over 33% of hospitalizations... This sounds oddly familiar🤔
More identity politics.
Disparity? No a racial disparity would be of African Americans were not getting access to the hospitals.
Because there is not equal distribution of cases , it's a little difficult to interpret these results. Cities with large black populations, Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, Miami and NY are have been hit harder. Also cities have long hx of disparities themselves
STOP FUCKING WITH NUMBERS, THIS HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH MEDICAID, OBAMA CARE AND LOW CLASS INSURANCE VERSUS PRIVATE INSURANCE... I DONT BUY IT. ITS CLASS NOT RACE... ITS ALSO THE CULTURE OF EATING AND UNDERLYING HEALTH AND HABITS
Possible factors include 👉 Many religious leaders have an unshakable faith 👐 that G-d will protect true believers during this emergency, though the good book also describes great tests for all mankind 🌎 Additionally, Affirmative Action legislation may be part of the equation.
CDC stats on Adult Obesity in the U.S.: Non-Hispanic blacks (49.6%) had the highest age-adjusted prevalence of obesity, followed by Hispanics (44.8%), non-Hispanic whites (42.2%) and non-Hispanic Asians (17.4%).
Doesn’t this only underscore the racial differences in diet and therefore underlying health conditions? Mainly high blood pressure and diabetes?
I think it’s clear that the coronavirus is racist
What, is the virus racist now? That doesn't even make sense. If they're over-represented in hospitalizations wouldn't that mean they're getting better care?
compare social distancing in a tenement vs. ivanka's children's rooms. or how about mel's entire floor in trump towers. now there is distancing! you can make a marriage for money last forever there! an no worries. this too shall pass.
According to the FBI and Justice Department. African American males who make up about 6% of the US population are responsible for over 50% of homicides in America. So,,,, 🤷
Racial disparities in health care?! I wasn't aware only white people secretly had access to a Covid19 vaccination.
un-heathy life styles !
Newsom just gave an update on racial ratio on COVID-19 cases in CA based on 6000+ cases: 30% hispanics, 14% Asian and 6% black.
