Newsome found a way to work his love for the Cavs around a strong rookie season of his own. Among all rookie cornerbacks in the league, Newsome has the second-best coverage grade in the league from Pro Football Focus .Cleveland currently holds a 22-18 record, and has gotten a strong blend of production from veterans and young players, defying outside expectations in the process.
Another Cleveland rookie has been a bright spot in the turnaround: Evan Mobley, who was drafted third overall by the Cavs this summer and is in the running for the NBA Rookie of the Year award. He’s currently averaging 14.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Then there’s Darius Garland, who’s having the best year of his career averaging a team-high 19.6 points and 7.2 assists. He’s made a legitimate case not just for most improved player, but to be an All-Star.
