The program, called Bridge the Gap, provides thousands of meals to students over the weekends and after school hours.Sonja Davidson, the Principal of Odyssey Elementary, said this program not only helps kids, but whole families as well.
“99% of our students live below the poverty line,” she said. “We know that students who come to school and receive food here, they get breakfast and lunch. We don’t know what happens at home,” Davidson said.A recent change in donor contribution has created more need for the program. “ felt like they needed to put their money somewhere else, and we understand that," said Randy Chappell, Basic Needs Director at Catholic Community Services of Utah. "We’ve had to deal with this before. When it comes to kids, that’s the hard part.”“Right now, we need a lot of financial donations to continue this program and make sure kids are being fed,” Chappell said.“We have students that literally rely on taking food home every single weekend," she said.
