Family of teen who died after Michigan trooper shot him with Taser gets $12,000,000.

Bessner, who had a history of misconduct allegations involving his Taser use, quit the state police after the teen's death and was charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was found guilty in April, sentenced to five to 15 years a month later and ordered to pay restitution to the Grimes family.

Prosecutor Matthew Penney told jurors that Bessner knew that using his Taser was"going to cause some serious harm to Damon Grimes." Former Michigan state trooper Mark Bessner listens during opening arguments in court in Detroit on April 10, 2019.State police condemned Bessner's conduct and said they believed the charges were appropriate.

In a statement Monday, the department called Damon's death a tragedy that could have been avoided"if not for the criminal and unforgivable actions" of Bessner. "The Michigan State Police extends its continued condolences to the Grimes' family, friends and supporters," the statement read."The MSP recognizes that while this monetary settlement does not change how this has affected the Grimes family, it may help to begin to bring some closure."During his trial, Bessner said he deployed his Taser because he believed Damon had a gun.

You can't tase someone driving a vehicle.

And it brought their son back? I didn’t think so..

police departments have huge overhead costs... no wonder so many US cities are broke.

Ask the family if they'd rather have their loved one back or keep the $12M.....

Posted repeatedly, all week long. How much is ENOUGH?

no amount of money can fill in the void left by the tragic and preventable death of a child.

FACTNOT OPINION THEY CAN'T DO THE JOB THIS WAY !!!!

It should say awarded. I doubt they will ever “get” or receive it.

Wish that comes out of the Michigan state trooper's bank account instead of Michigan taxpayers's pockets.

Finally a little bit of justice

money isn't going to bring their kid back

I hope he is completely bankrupted and deplatformed so that we never have to hear another word from him as long as we live. Pathetic. He made a fortune out of torturing those poor families. He is revolting. That’s it? He got off way too easy.
