The High Court of Australia announced on Wednesday that it would hear an appeal from the world's most senior Catholic to be convicted of child sexual abuse.

Cardinal George Pell arrives at the Supreme Court of Victoria on June 06, 2019.

Pell, 78, was Australia's most senior Catholic and an inner circle adviser to Pope Francis before being charged with four counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual penetration with a child. He was found guilty by a jury last year. Pell appealed against the verdict in the Victorian Court of Appeal earlier this year, but it was dismissed.
