Federal tax credits up to $7,500 for EVs built in North America could help juice demand. But the administration is still working out the fine print on which vehicles qualify. And the incentives come after an eye-popping run-up in all auto prices.

to have plug-in vehicles make up half of new vehicle sales by 2030. Electric car sales rose sharply last year to claim 5.4 percent of the U.S. market, with many models attracting long waiting lists of buyers. But consumer worries about high prices, sparse

“These high vehicle prices are becoming out of reach for most consumers,” Charles Chesbrough, senior economist at Cox Automotive, told a conference in Detroit this monthAs more EV models hit the market, there are signs that competition is softening prices — a trend some analysts think could accelerate in the coming months. EV giant Tesla hason several occasions in recent weeks as rivals cut into its market share in the United States and overseas.

For its part, the Biden administration is armed with counterpoints to combat upfront EV sticker shock. Michael Berube, deputy assistant secretary for sustainable transportation at the Energy Department, said in an interview that tax credits will lower the initial costs for many Americans, while new battery technology will drive down EV costs over time. He also talked up the long-term savings of going electric.

No problem. Just have 'government' help pay for them

They must love slavery if they enjoy EVs.

EV is bad for 'green' energy too

❤️

People out there getting $1000 car payments on their super behemoth souped-up pickups and SUVs, but sure, EVs are “expensive”. 🙄

A Chevy Silverado is 68,000 dollars and a Dodge ram is 72,000 dollars. A Ford ranger is 48,000 dollars. What is your point?

More fear mongering.

'That's bad for the future of climate'

Besides the fact they loose distance capacity in the cold. Take to long to charge. Need child slave labor to mine the minerals to produce the battery. Catch fire that is hard to put out. Are toxic as hell and damn near impossible to recycle.

Tax credits?

DanEggenWPost 'Bullsh*t!'

Just declare EVs a human right and force EV manufacturers to provide them for free.

All of that wisdom over at The Washington Post and yet they still do not know what Green Energy is all about. I don't think any of them have read the age old outlined plans of Authoritarians who used similar scams to eliminate Freedoms. Stalin for example.

Again Joe Biden turn on loud noise, not allow me rest. Nikolai 29/01/2023

'These high vehicle prices are becoming out of reach for most consumers,” Charles Chesbrough, senior economist at Cox Automotive, told a conference in Detroit this month, referring to all cars, including electric.' Conventional cars are too expensive, and electric cars are worse

Don’t worry. elonmusk will jerk around his loyal base on pricing again soon enough, I’m sure.

Um, have you seen the prices in the whole car market? It's not the prices specifically of ev's that are off-putting. They're ALL too expensive. Car prices are obscene across the board.

Bet they don't like batteries that can't handle cold weather....

'The fuck does this run on? Eggs?'

We had a clean energy, Biden and the democrats killed it.

'the administration'? That sounds creepy

This is the stupidest headline imaginable as EVs are the same prices as typical cars. Utter nonsense.

Mayor Pete is still on Maternity Leave

Car buyers are practical. Who wants an EV on a long drive?

EVs have no practicality beyond the golf course. Progressive pipe dreams to cut us down to size.

EaVs - way too expensive - even with tax credits

Another corporate give away

EV batteries=destroyed earth, slave labor & wages, emissions from coal fueled plants in which they’re made, & big $ to China’s CPC who hate the US & strive to replace us in near future. They don’t work in the cold, have a limited lifetime, & the grid can’t support. Great plan!

You aren't getting an EV, there isn't enough lithium or cobalt on earth to make the batteries for EV replacements for gas cars, the idea is not that everybody has an EV, it's that most won't own a vehicle.

The day after the credit was passed, guess how much the price of EV's went up?

CAFE standards loophole fiasco is worse--only bloated, top-heavy, dangerous to pedestrian vehicles manufactured.

Where does the electricity come from that powers these EV's?

Stupid government for you. They don't help anything, they hurt everything. Democrats probably worked with manufacturers and dealerships to come up with the scheme.

Of course companies where going to increase their prices to reflect the subsidies. Any freshman Econ student could have told you that.
