the lake was filled in the 1960s. That said, while at a record low , there is still plenty of lake to enjoy if you can get your boat on the water.
Out of the 23 boat ramps on Canyon Lake, only 2 are open at this time and for Memorial Day weekend. Boat ramp #18 on the north side of the lake is open at a cost of $5 for vehicles registered in Comal County and $20 for those outside of Comal County. Boat ramp #19 on the south side of the lake is open only on weekends temporarily as the the marina is extending the boat slips further out into the lake during the week. Cost to launch a boat at ramp #19 is $30 a pass.
Canyon Lake is now at 57.8% full and down just over 23 feet. Flow into Canyon Lake remains weak on the Guadalupe River below 10 cfs into the lake where typical flow in late May would be 200 cfs or higher. Spring rains have missed the mark on falling over the Guadalupe River recharge basin especially from Comfort to Hunt which is the headwaters of the Guadalupe River. Much of this watershed remains in extreme drought which lingers from last year. Rain chances will not return to the watershed until next week where a few opportunities for a shower or storm will be possible in a more active pattern again in Texas.
Latest 5-day rainfall forecast from NOAA's Weather Prediction Center puts a general .25" to .75" rain over the recharge basin of the river at this time. Keep in mind, it's not a matter of "if" Canyon Lake and all our area lakes will fill back up, it's a matter of "when".
