California voters to weigh in on banning new oil and gas wells near communities

Secretary of State Shirley Weber announced Friday that opponents of Senate Bill 1137 gathered more than 623,000 valid voter signatures and met the threshold to put the measure on the ballot as a referendum for next year's general election on November 5, 2024. Voters will then weigh in on whether to approve or reject the measure.
